Dreaming of a White (and Air-Conditioned) Christmas

Simple ways to make living in the southwest a little more festive during the holidays

As someone who enjoys warm weather 99.9% of the time, I don’t have much to complain about when it comes to living in Arizona. Being able to wake up every morning knowing that I’ll feel the sun on my skin at some point during the day is something I am very grateful for. I’ll even admit that the warm climate is one of the initial reasons I considered coming here for undergrad.

However, when it comes to the holidays I have the upmost expectations about my surroundings (being that I was blessed to grow up in Colorado). I’m accustomed to enjoying the excitement of the season while seeing crystal white snow flakes lining the top of pine trees around me, feeling brisk air turning my cheeks rosy while I’m out and about,

That being said, after a few years of reluctantly drinking my hot coco in flip flops when December rolls around in Tucson, I’ve developed few simple ways to get myself in the holiday spirit.

Pine Oil

I first bought pine oil with the intention of adding a few drops to my oil diffuser to give my bedroom a more fresh & clean smell. I didn’t realize that not only did these powerful drops could make my space just feel like christmas, they also have several beneficial uses.

Lightweight (but still cozy) sweaters

I used to like to curl up at the end of the day in a fuzzy sweater while watching the snow falll out of my window.
